Funny Quotes

For those of you interested in a collection of funny quotes that I've "harvested" throughout time, you can see the whole list here. Alternatively you can get a random quote from the same collection. For those of you interested in using these quotes as a ending tag-line in your email client, you can find out how to do so.

Last but not least, do you have a funny quote to submit?

Update: Note that I am now offering the random quote facility as a webservice. To access this service, the URL is http://www.liviutudor.com/funstuff/RandomQuote.jws. You can view the WSDL of this webservice by following the URL: http://www.liviutudor.com/funstuff/RandomQuote.jws?wsdl.
Even though it's not necessary as at the moment the service is widely available to the whole Internet, I would appreciate an email if you decide to use this webservice from your (web) application. (Also some compliments wouldn't hurt either :-) ).

Technical notes regarding the webservice: You will notice with this webservice that it offers 2 methods: getRandomQuote and getPlainRandomQuote. This is due to the fact that some of the quotes have been submitted using some HTML tags already (like <u>, <b> etc.). The getRandomQuote function returns exactly the formatted HTML text of the quote (including these tags); the function getPlainRandomQuote doesn't. The idea is that the latter could thus be used in non-media rich applications (e.g. mobile phone applications), while the former can actually be used in any application (web-based or not) that supports HTML formatting.
One last thing to be mentioned here: the getPlainRandomQuote function expects a boolean parameter -- if this is set to true (1) then it will convert all the HTML line break tags (<br> , <br/>) in new line characters (\n), so if you are using this text on a device that can interpret this character, it will then put a line break in the text; if however, you don't want this, simply pass in the value of false (0) and the whole quote will be returned without any HTML tags and/or line breaks in it.

Update For those of those interested in mobile programming, there is now a mobile client which makes use of this web service to show a random quote. Visit the mobile programming section for details and downloads.

Update Even more goodies : the random funny quote facility is now being offered as a Google gadget (link opens in a new window)! The XML describing the gadget is available at http://www.liviutudor.com/funstuff/quotegadget.xml for those who prefer to add it to their Google page via URL or you can browse the Google Fun & Games repository (link opens in a new window). To find out more about how to install this gadget on your home page read the gadgets instructions.

ASCII Art

For those of you interested in a collection of ASCII stuff that I've "harvested" throughout time, you can see the whole list here. Alternatively you can get a random ASCII pic from the same collection. For those of you interested in using these ASCII art pics as a ending tag-line in your email client, you can find out how to do so.

Last but not least, do you have an ASCII drawing to submit?

Update: Note that I am now offering the random ASCII facility as a webservice. To access this service, the URL is http://www.liviutudor.com/funstuff/RandomAscii.jws. You can view the WSDL of this webservice by following the URL: http://www.liviutudor.com/funstuff/RandomAscii.jws?wsdl.
Even though it's not necessary as at the moment the service is widely available to the whole Internet, I would appreciate an email if you decide to use this webservice from your (web) application. (Also some compliments wouldn't hurt either :-) ).

Technical notes regarding the webservice: You will notice with this webservice that it offers only 1 methods: getRandomAscii. This will return the ASCII art "as is" -- i.e. including characters that should be escaped if embedded in HTML (for instance < and >). Also it breaks down the lines by using the normal line break character (\n). So if you want to use this on a plain text device that supports the line break character (e.g. a mobile device), then simply just display the text returned; otherwise you will have to replace these characters with the corresponding line break.
Also, due to these facts, if you want to embed the result into HTML pages then you will have to escape these ASCII drawings in order to avoid malformed HTML.

NOTE: For those of those interested in mobile programming, keep an eye onto the mobile section as I will be uploading soon a mobile client that uses this service.

Update Even more goodies : the random ASCII art facility is now being offered as a Google gadget (link opens in a new window)! The XML describing the gadget is available at http://www.liviutudor.com/funstuff/asciigadget.xml for those who prefer to add it to their Google page via URL or you can browse the Google Fun & Games repository (link opens in a new window). To find out more about how to install this gadget on your home page read the gadgets instructions.
