Having a decent ADSL connection and 8 fixed IP addresses I've realised it's about time I take care of my own hosting, DNS, mail and the lot! The problem is you can't do that on one single PC :D (Well, I guess you could, but it would run like a dog :-( )

Luckily there's Dabs and they do some low-spec PCs which come with Mandrake Linux preinstalled. Now I didn't want to spend money on licenses and stuff for a personal website, so Linux was the OS I had in mind from the beginning. However, I was eyeing Debian Linux, and not Mandrake. (I'm not slagging Mandrake off here, just that Debian was my preferrence.)

So I placed an order for a few PC's and a monitor -- why buy monitors when we've got KVM's nowadays? ;-) -- and then waited for confirmation of delivery.

A couple of weeks later Dabs has finally informed that they have delivered my PCs which should take 1 working day to reach me. Took the day off and waited for delivery which arrived on time (!!). Pretty soon I had a house full of boxes and not enough power leads/extensions. A trip to Argos on the day proved useful though :-)

About 1 week after the delivery I had the computers networked up, running Debian and sharing the ADSL connection. The dawn of a new era, huh? :-)

Finally put some content on the site and even though this is work in progress, www.liviutudor.com is no longer just a standard "Under construction" page.
